An event dedicated to issues of social and behaviour change (SBC) in the context of UNICEF's work in Turkmenistan was held at the UN building in Ashgabat.

The interactive session was attended by representatives of relevant government bodies, including the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of the Population, the National Institute of Education, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography of Turkmenistan, media representatives, as well as Youth SDG Ambassadors.

The keynote presentation titled "What is Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) in the World and at UNICEF?" was delivered by invited expert Luca Solimeo.

During the session, participants discussed in detail issues related to the destigmatization of mental health and the application of the SBC concept in Turkmenistan, including analysis of the "Parent Portrait" and the results of a pilot parental support programme. Particular attention was given to the practical "Parent’s Guide for Monitoring Child Development (0-5 Years)."

Interactive group work focused on mapping behaviours that affect the rights and well-being of children. The discussion concluded with the identification of the role of each partner organization in influencing social norms and public behaviour.

It should be noted that from August 25 to September 5, 2025, the second regular sessions of the Executive Boards of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNICEF took place in New York. As a result, country programme documents for Turkmenistan for 2026–2030 were approved. These strategies, developed jointly with the Turkmen side, provide for the implementation of relevant projects and initiatives in key areas in collaboration with UNDP, UNICEF, and UNFPA offices in Turkmenistan over the next five years, laying the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership.
