Working visit of the delegation led by the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to the People's Republic of China

On May 21, 2025, in order to develop inter-parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China, a working visit of the Turkmen delegation led by the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan D. Gulmanova to the People's Republic of China began.

As part of the working visit, a meeting in an expanded format was held with the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Zhao Leji.

During the meeting, the importance of the adoption by the United Nations, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of the Resolutions "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust" and "Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan" was emphasized, and the Turkmen side expressed gratitude for the support of the People's Republic of China for this initiative of Turkmenistan.

The importance of mutual support for the initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China within the framework of the United Nations, as well as friendly relations established at the highest level, was emphasized.

In this regard, special attention was paid to the results of bilateral agreements reached in various fields at the meetings of the Heads of State of the two countries during the visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the People's Republic of China. At the same time, issues of cooperation at the parliamentary level in the "Central Asia - China" format, as well as the future holding of the Interparliamentary Council "Central Asia - China" and the joint forum "Turkmenistan - China: Women and Youth" were considered.

During the meeting, the importance of improving the activities of interparliamentary friendship groups was noted, which will contribute to the development of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the intensification of relations between specialized committees and the holding of meetings and conferences at the parliamentary level. At the meeting, the Chinese side expressed readiness to further expand cooperation between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China in such areas as science and education, healthcare, and agriculture.

D. Gulmanova expressed confidence that the meetings and negotiations held during the visit would contribute to further strengthening bilateral inter-parliamentary relations. She also emphasized that she highly appreciates the inter-parliamentary relations between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China and is ready to further develop them in all areas.

The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan expressed hope that the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Zhao Leji will take part in international events held in our country on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's permanent neutrality, which is celebrated in 2025 - the International Year of Peace and Trust.

On May 23, 2025, as part of the visit, a meeting was held between the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and the Vice-President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Han Zheng.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the unanimous adoption by the United Nations, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, of the Resolution "2025 - International Year of Peace and Trust", recognizing for the third time the legal status of permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan. In this regard, the importance of the active and creative views of neutral Turkmenistan aimed at developing equal cooperation with all countries, confident negotiations and peace initiatives was noted.

The Turkmen side noted that the peoples of the two countries are connected by historical roots, cultural and spiritual community through the ancient Great Silk Road, and that today, thanks to the efforts of the Heads of State, relations in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres, based on mutual respect, trust and equality, are successfully developing and enriched with new content.

During the talks, the major role of cooperation between the two states in the international legal system for the further development of large-scale, equal and mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the People's Republic of China was noted. It was also emphasized that these relations contribute to the further strengthening of friendship and brotherhood between the peoples, support for interstate cooperation relations through parliamentary diplomacy.

Also during the visit, the delegation of Turkmenistan met with the Deputy Chairperson of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation of the People’s Republic of China, Shen Beili. During the familiarization with the activities of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation, the Chinese side highly appreciated the activities carried out by the Charity Fund for Providing Assistance to Children in Need of Guardianship named after  Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and particularly noted the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the future.
