Turkmenistan advocates equality in water-resource issues and the formation of a coordinated environmental diplomacy in Central Asia
At the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in Tashkent on 16 November, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov called on his colleagues for solidarity in cooperation on water-use issues and for expanding joint efforts to address environmental challenges.
“We count on the further strengthening of cooperation on water-resource issues in the region based on equality, respect for one another’s interests, mutual understanding, and solidarity,” said the President of Turkmenistan.
Focusing attention on the integrity of environmental well-being, the head of state noted that Ashgabat supports expanding joint efforts on environmental issues in the region, especially on such sensitive matters as saving the Aral Sea and combating desertification.
“We welcome the presence of UN institutions in the environmental agenda in Central Asia and the establishment of their specialized offices here. We are convinced of the need for our countries to form a coordinated environmental diplomacy within the UN and to attract greater international attention to the problems of Central Asia,” emphasized President Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
