Turkmenistan is expanding cooperation with international organisations in the field of intellectual property

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov held a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers using the digital system, where a number of priority issues of state life were discussed.

During the meeting, deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of foreign affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the work being carried out to develop interaction of Turkmenistan with relevant international structures, in particular with the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the Eurasian Patent Organisation (EAPO).

The head of state was presented with a set of specific proposals.

Thus, together with the EAPO, it is planned to organise a seminar in Ashgabat entitled «Promoting innovative development and invention – regional and global opportunities», which will focus on issues related to the protection of rights, the registration of inventions, and their implementation in production.

A visit by a delegation from Turkmenistan to Dushanbe (Republic of Tajikistan) is scheduled for the 21st-23rd of October of this year to participate in the 48th meeting of the EAPO Administrative Council and the international forum on intellectual property. In addition, delegation of the country will take part in the 37th meeting of the WIPO Committee on Development and intellectual property in Geneva from 16th to 20th of November 2026.

At the same time, it was proposed that Turkmenistan join the «Memorandum of understanding on the Eurasian patent prosecution highway program», which will streamline examination procedures and increase the efficiency of application processing. Accession of the country to the «Trademark law treaty» (1994) and the «Singapore treaty on the law of trademarks» (2006) is also being considered.

As part of cooperation with WIPO, it is planned to explore the possibilities of using a new digital mechanism – the «Innovation potential navigator».

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the proposals, emphasising the importance of strengthening international cooperation and implementing best practices in intellectual property protection, and issued corresponding instructions to the deputy-prime and head of MFA.
