YANGI-KALA - SPACE LANDSCAPES OF THE TURKMEN CANYON

Yangi-Kala canyon is one of the most picturesque places in Turkmenistan. Translated from the Turkmen language, its name means "Fiery Fortresses".

The unique attraction is located 165 km north of Balkanabat and 160 km east of Turkmenbashi and is popular with both local residents and tourists. The view of space landscapes, which you can admire to your heart's content, climbing a narrow ledge, protruding with a sharp edge above a high cliff, is breathtaking.

Yangi-Kala resembles a gigantic and impregnable fortress, erected by nature itself many centuries ago from layers of red, white, yellow and orange shades. The color of the rocks of the canyon is dominated by red, so the locals often call it Kyzildag (Red Mountains). In ancient times, the canyon was flooded with the waters of the Kara-Bogaz-Gol Bay, so even now especially lucky travelers manage to find here petrified shells and stones of mysterious shape and color. Many of those who were lucky enough to admire Yangi-Kala, note the echo of rare beauty, which repeats the enthusiastic exclamations of tourists many times.
