In his speech at the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) held in Dushanbe, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the importance of regularly conducting political and diplomatic consultations within the CIS framework to facilitate a useful exchange of views.

Addressing this pressing issue, the President of Turkmenistan underscored that maintaining a sustainable system of security and stability in the CIS region remains one of the most crucial objectives of the organization’s collective efforts. According to the Head of State, such a dialogue format allows for a deeper understanding of the positions, assessments, and concerns of partners, and paves the way for mutually agreed solutions.

“Turkmenistan advocates for the development of such consultations and the expansion of their thematic scope, particularly in light of the current serious challenges. In this context, we consider one of the key foreign policy tasks of the CIS to be the defense of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. We also believe it is essential to make full use of the opportunities presented by the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution on ‘Cooperation between the United Nations and the CIS’ on August 6, 2025,” stated the President of Turkmenistan.

In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov proposed that the participants of the meeting assign their foreign ministries the task of launching coordinated and active work at the UN on this agenda. He also suggested the development of a consultation mechanism and ensuring the broadest possible involvement of UN member states in these consultations.
