Briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan

On 18 September 2026, a briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan dedicated to the priority positions of Turkmenistan at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly and the cooperation of the country with the regional and international organizations.

The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, international organizations and mass media.

During the briefing, the main approaches of Turkmenistan to current issues on the international and regional agenda, as well as the key areas of the country’s work at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, were presented. Particular attention was drawn to issues of peace, security and permanent neutrality, sustainable development and transport, energy, climate change and environmental protection, humanitarian cooperation, international law, and further cooperation with the United Nations.

Particular attention was paid to the consistent promotion of Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality and the development of preventive diplomacy. In this context, initiatives aimed at strengthening international trust, preventing conflicts, peacefully resolving disputes and expanding multilateral cooperation under the auspices of the United Nations were presented.

A separate section of the briefing was devoted to international economic cooperation.

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the participants about the cooperation of Turkmenistan with international trade-economic structures and financial institutions.

During the meeting, a number of important issues were discussed, including the advancement of the accession process of Turkmenistan to the World Trade Organization. In the transport and logistics sector, emphasis was made on Turkmenistan’s activities aimed at implementing the initiative on the Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026 – 2035 and promoting the project of the Global Atlas of Sustainable Transport Connectivity.

The issues related to energy, climate resilience and environmental protection were also addressed at the briefing. Among the areas highlighted were the development of sustainable energy connectivity, strengthening cooperation on water resources and climate issues, as well as the implementation of the Caspian Environmental Initiative and efforts aimed at establishing the UN Special Programme for the Aral Sea Basin.

In the humanitarian sphere, attention was drawn to the development of healthcare and education, support for youth, expanding the role of women, as well as promoting intercultural and inter-civilizational dialogue, preserving historical and cultural heritage.

Special attention was also devoted to international law and Turkmenistan’s participation in the activities of UN system. In particular, the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution proclaiming 2028 as the International Year of International Law upon the initiative of Turkmenistan was noted, as well as the country’s participation in the elected bodies of the UN system.

The briefing concluded with an exchange of views with participants of the meeting on the relevant issues addressed during the event.
