On August 3, 2025, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, held on the Caspian coast.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Taurkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, sincerely greeting the UN Secretary General, noted that he was glad to see him on the sacred Turkmen land.

Having warmly welcomed the distinguished guest at the airport, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan emphasized that the unanimous adoption at the 63rd plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly of the Resolution “Additional information on the modalities of the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries” was a decision demonstrating the high authority of independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan in the international arena.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said it was a great honour for him to take part in the International Forum of universal significance held in Turkmenistan, which is following the path of harmonious development.

Confidence was expressed that the agreements that will be reached as a result of discussions within the framework of the International Conference, covering current issues of our time, will have a positive impact on the economies of countries around the world.

Speaking about the importance of exchanging views on important issues and making appropriate decisions regarding the future development of landlocked states, the National Leader of the Turkmen people emphasized that the organization and holding of the High-Level Forum under the auspices of the UN is seen as a sign of universal trust placed in Turkmenistan.

It was noted that the Conference will contribute to increasing the economic potential of developing countries that do not have access to the sea, and to developing interregional and international relations in the trade and economic sphere. As stated, parallel events, as well as meetings and negotiations between the relevant structures, are planned within the framework of the Forum.

Particular emphasis was placed on the importance of holding the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries in the year of the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s acquisition of permanent neutrality and the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

The Conference, held on the coast of the Caspian Sea, will discuss issues of current interest to the global economy and identify ways to successfully resolve them, which will create broad opportunities for developing relations in the field of transport within the framework of international partnership.

Wishes were expressed for success in the activities of the Forum, which covers important topics in the development of relations in the transport and logistics sector and transport diplomacy in general, as well as confidence that the decisions taken will contribute to the harmonious development of the countries.

Having once again welcomed the distinguished guest to the Turkmen land, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Taurkmenistan thanked him for his efforts to hold the world-class Forum in Turkmenistan.
