TURKMENISTAN’S SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTION TO ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION

Spring green campaign has been started in Turkmenistan with participation of esteemed President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. National action of tree planting, which took place all over the country, was timed to International Nowruz Day – National Spring Holiday, which is representing the generosity of nature in the period of its spring renewal and blooming, commitment to spiritual traditions and values, one of which is the care of native land.

Respect for nature is the most important priority of the state policy of Turkmenistan. In the interest of ensuring environmental safety both nationally and globally, the country has successfully implemented the long-term National Forest Program, which provides the creation of green belts around cities and villages, along highways and railways. The President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov pays special attention to the implementation of this grandiose program, which involves almost the entire population of Turkmenistan, as an important factor in protecting people's health, creating comfortable conditions for their full life and rest.

Actual proposals put forward by the head of Turkmenistan at world forums, including sessions of the UN General Assembly, are aimed at comprehensive environmental protection. Having received wide support from the international community, they serve as a good basis for joint international environmental projects and programs.

Today, the international community recognizes the significant contribution of Turkmenistan to the solution of the most pressing environmental issues of great importance to humanity. This applies primarily to climate change, the careful use of land and water resources, combating desertification, the prevention of land degradation, the protection of the marine environment and the biological diversity of the Caspian Sea, and many other aspects.

Green oases are spread on many thousands of hectares in different parts of Turkmenistan, especially in the picturesque foothills in the vicinity of the Turkmen capital. There are pine forests on the once bare hills and slopes giving fresh air and invigorating coolness, the number of trees on them already goes to tens of millions.

This year a greening campaign took place in all regions of the Turkmen land. 1 million 604 thousand 200 trees were planted in the entire country. In addition to planting of trees, special emphasis was made on the care of existing plantings, which will allow young trees to grow stronger and gain strength.

In this context, a flash mob for planting 10 million trees throughout Armenia is noteworthy, which was announced by the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at the beginning of March this year. "Plant your tree, grow and give it to your native, ancestors, homeland," the Armenian Prime Minister urges.

The goal of the flash mob is to plant 10 million trees throughout Armenia on October 10, 2020. The Minister of the Environment of the Republic of Armenia Eric Grigoryan explained that on this day a nationwide tree planting day will be announced, in which all those citizens of Armenia who are physically able to do this will take part. But reforestation will be carried out starting from spring during the year.

The Prime Minister gave a symbolic start to the promised tree planting with a student of the Charentsavan School, Aida Agajanyan, who was invited to this event after her letter to the Minister of the Environment. The girl suggested planting trees all over Armenia so that Armenia becomes beautiful and the air is clean. For symbolic planting, Nikol Pashinyan chose cedar seeds, and Aida chose an ash-tree. Seeds are planted in pots. They should be looked after and grown in pots until October 10 and on the planned date to be transplanted into the ground. "We urge all citizens of Armenia to follow our example. Plant and grow your own tree in order to take part in the event on October 10" Pashinyan said. And for citizens who express a desire to join the nationwide flash mob announced by the Prime Minister, Ayantar (Armforest) will provide seeds for free.

The Minister of the Environment also said that the tree planting program is global in nature and is being implemented around the world. It is planned to plant 1 trillion trees in total.
