THE MEETING OF THE MINISTERS OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE LITTORAL COUNTRIES HELD IN ASHGABAT

On June 28, 2022, the Meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Caspian states dedicated to the preparation of the Sixth Caspian Summit, which will be held on June 29, was held in the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan attended the meeting.

The heads of the foreign  police agencies reviewed cooperation in the Caspian Sea and discussed the agenda of the summit, the modalities for further interaction in preparation for the upcoming meeting of the Presidents of the Caspian "five", and also discussed the Communiqué on the agreed positions on the development of cooperation in the region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov in his speech noted that Turkmenistan stands for the intensification of political and diplomatic cooperation between the Caspian states, the transfer to a regular mode of meetings at the level of foreign ministers for the constant "synchronization of clocks" and timely response to certain events and trends .

Among the priority steps needed to realize the potential of the Caspian region, R.Meredov called the creation of effective transport communication schemes, energy supplies - both in the Caspian Sea and with access to the outer perimeter - European, Asian, Middle Eastern directions.

R.Meredov identified terrorism, organized transnational crime, drug trafficking and any other illegal activity as possible threats and challenges for the countries of the region. He also expressed his conviction that the fight against these phenomena should have appropriate diplomatic support and be supported by political agreements.

Despite the variability of regional and world processes, the priorities of the Caspian cooperation remain unchanged, and the basic and unconditional is to ensure lasting, long-term peace and stability, comprehensive and indivisible security, the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan emphasized.
